Ironies of Emancipation Essay

The article â€Å"Ironies of Emancipation: Changing Configurations of Women’s Work in the ‘Mission of Sisterhood’ to Indian Women† by Jane Haggis is an article that was composed from a women's activist point of view to pose explicit inquiries about how the impact of the crucial sisterhood either aided or hurt Indian ladies in the 1800’s. The creator takes the position that Indian ladies were limited to relationships all the more intensely on account of the nearness of female ministers in India. The creator calls attention to that the female evangelists turned out to be right around a â€Å"symbol of liberation as far as British supreme feminism† and consequently alone, the Indian populace was discontent with the manner in which the females introduced themselves and didn't change (Haggis123). The minister work, in of itself, was â€Å"women’s work† and was a manner by which the British ladies had the option to apply their own autonomy while doing the desire of God. This article concentrates a lot on how the religion of the time influenced the manner by which British and Indian ladies conveyed and cooperated with one another and was a purpose behind the result, either the disappointment or the achievements, of the Mission of Sisterhood. The creator depicts how these ladies were relied upon to do their â€Å"women’s work† regardless of the local obligations that were anticipated from a Victorian spouse and mother, for the most part in light of the fact that in Travencore ladies had an alternate job as far as parenthood in light of the fact that their youngsters were frequently sent away to class to get appropriate British instruction. Burnout in Therapists Profession

Burnout is a term used to imply the psychological weariness that frequently goes with proficient requests. The power of advisor burnout frequently contrasts between various specialists with pointers that change from empathic slips to crankiness and answering at patients during treatment meetings. Specialist burnout levels are connected to enthusiastic weariness, depersonalization and individual feeling of expert and individual achievement. The examination utilized the Counselor Burnout Inventory to explore the reasons for burnout among advisors utilizing an example of 167 therapists.Advertising We will compose a custom research paper test on Burnout in Therapists Profession explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The discoveries of the exploration bolstered the fundamental speculation, which expressed that burnout was associated with relational difficulties. As built up in the investigation, burnout among the specialists occupied with the example expanded in consistenc y with an expansion in the degrees of relational issues. The investigation discoveries demonstrated that the connection among burnout and relational difficulties concurred with the impression of the procedure of psychotherapy as a relational practice (Hersoug et al., 2001). That finding suggested that individual occasions in therapists’ lives assumed a huge job in the manner they played out their remedial obligations. This connection between relational difficulties and burnout can be credited to individual stressors, for example, separation, mourning and chapter 11, which increment specialist feelings of anxiety. While relational issues influence the general efficiency of specialists, delayed presentation to stressors legitimately hoist the degrees of burnout. The manner in which specialists react to these stressors is probably going to influence their burnout levels. Individuals who approach relational issues in a proactive and angry way are equipped for managing more adequa tely with stressors than the individuals who defer or get away from individual issues. Future investigations here should concentrate on explicit relational stressors and how each adds to specialist burnout. The examination discoveries showed no considerable fluctuation with respect to the individual experience of advisors who had experienced a procedure of treatment and its association with burnout. The quantity of treatment meetings (assuming any) that the specialists had joined in, or the focal point of their past advisors had small bearing on the burnout levels of individual advisors. It was reasonable to anticipate that treatment should mitigate some measure of pressure related with restorative practice since treatment should help people in managing stressors and individual issues. Unexpectedly, there was no distinction between the individuals who went to treatment and the individuals who didn't go to treatment with respect to burnout. In any case, since the examination didn't s urvey whether the respondents were experiencing treatment at the hour of the investigation, it was difficult to decide any huge fluctuation between specialists who were going to treatment at the hour of the investigation and advisors with past participation experience. Future examinations around there ought to likewise research the reasons why the specialists look for treatment. The explanations behind looking for treatment can have noteworthy ramifications on the connection between singular directing participation and burnout. An advisor who is at present going to treatment may have a higher burnout level than an individual who went to treatment in the past in light of the fact that the issue that the specialist looks to manage is as yet existent. Notwithstanding the nonattendance of a broad writing or observational investigations supporting the importance of individual treatment in the restorative procedure, past examinations have found that most expert advocates feel that their o wn directing effectsly affects their expert yield (Kottler, 2010).Advertising Looking for inquire about paper on brain science? The investigation demonstrated that youthful advisors with little experience showed more degrees of burnout that their more established, experienced partners. One potential clarification for that advancement was that youthful advisors who had little involvement with the training had restricted power over their workplace and were, hence, progressively bothered by their working conditions. Besides, more youthful, unpracticed advisors had restricted control of the assortments of customers that they treated, not at all like built up specialists who had more freedom to pick the sort customers that they met. For example, an accomplished advisor may have decided to concentrate on treating patients who had the option to pay using cash on hand. The low burnout levels among more established advisors could likewise be related with a characteristic weeding process, in which specialists who had experienced burnout decided to stop the calling. The individuals who were left in treatment practice were, in this way, more impervious to burnout than unpracticed advisors. Another clarification for the diminishing burnout levels as specialists developed in experience was that increasingly experienced advisors gained methods for managing difficulties that went with clinical practice. The discoveries of this investigation showed a little immediate connection among age (and experience) and a burnout. The speculations of the examination were explored for a direct relationship between segment factors and burnout. In any cas e, in spite of the manner in which the investigation portrayed the relationship, it probably won't have been essentially direct. There were a couple of constraints raised during the examination. The essential territory of concern was that, however the Counselor Burnout Inventory (CBI) appeared to depict an impressive degree of quantitative face legitimacy just as solid psychometric attributes, it was a strategy of calculation that was not as generally applied as the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The MBI is a device that is broadly applied in scholarly research, which actualizes Maslach’s three-dimensional worldview in surveying burnout levels. Maslach’s model factors in inefficacy, depletion and pessimism as segments of employment related burnout, and is generally acknowledged. In spite of the fact that the CBI is extraordinarily intended to be utilized on guides, it isn't as applied as the MBI. This may influence the legitimacy of the aftereffects of the investigat ion. Another impediment of the examination concerned the delegate test utilized during the investigation. The example contained predominantly of specialists of the white race with little portrayal from other racial networks. The way that an impressive number of respondents who took an interest toward the start of the examination didn't finish all the things that were posed additionally raised inquiries of bias.Advertising We will compose a custom research paper test on Burnout in Therapists Profession explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The way that the investigation found a solid connection between clinician burnout and relational issues demonstrated the noteworthiness of self-care among analysts to upgrade their treatment adequacy. More examinations are as yet important to obviously outline the association between relational issues and burnout, particularly in explaining whether relational issues go before or follow advisor burnout. Studies can likewise be compl eted to survey the degrees of burnout among advisors before they start rehearsing and during their training to screen the example of progress in relational issues. A wore out specialist needs inspiration and care towards his work and customers. The work gets negligible while the advisor turns out to be sincerely depleted and non-responsive. It is critical to distinguish burnout early with the goal that it very well may be dealt with and dispensed with. References Baird, S., Jenkins, S. R. (2003). The goals of American foreign policy Essay Example for Free

The objectives of American international strategy Essay The 1930s were a troublesome time for most Americans. Confronted with monster monetary hardshipsâ€unprecedented in American historyâ€many Americans went internal to concentrate on the compounding circumstance at home. The United States turned out to be progressively heartless toward the devastation of individual majority rules systems on account of fierce extremist pioneers like Hitler and Mussolini. The U.S. was resolved to avoid war at all costsâ€even if its partners were in a tough situation; Americans accepted that they were insusceptible from Europe’s issues as long as they would not get included. Be that as it may, as the â€Å"free† nations fell, individually, to the Nazi war machine, Americans started to understand the habit of their absurd good faith and clamored for expanding contribution in outside undertakings. American international strategy changed in the years 1930-1941 as Americans understood that dictatorship would almost certainly vanquish all of Europe except if Americans acted rapidly. At last, it was dread of the fundamentalist danger to American majority rule government that set off the finish of American nonintervention and initiated the period of American interventionism. World War I had left a severe preference for the mouths of numerous Americans; many accepted that the U.S. had been fooled into joining the war for an inappropriate reasons, and they were resolved to abstain from committing a similar error twice. After the Great War, Americans were frustrated to understand that the war was battled for invalid; World War I was not the â€Å"War to End Wars† as publicized by the administration promulgation. The failure of being â€Å"suckered† into the Great War spurred Americans to receive a to a great extent neutralist strategy during the 1930s. The circumstance was intensified when Britain and France defaulted on their advances from the U.S. after they couldn't gather reparation installments from Germany agreeably. In a political sketch of 1932, Uncle Sam is seen carefully commenting that the main thing European countries can concur upon is that they can't take care of their U.S. advances (Document B). Neutrality was additionally empowered when Hoover affirmed the Hawley-Smoot Tariff of 1930, raising the levy to an inconceivable 60%. The climbing up of the tax shut out remote exchange about completelyâ€a reality which didn't appear to trouble an excessive number of Americans who were worried about their own fortunes at that point. Numerous remote countries reacted with high levies of their own, to a great extent crushing any possibility of global exchange. Shockingly, American noninterference had more direâ consequences than the loss of exchange or advance defaults. As the 1930s delayed, it turned out to be certain that extremism was devastating numerous popular governments around the world, yet America despite everything decided on nonpartisanship instead of war. Miserably hopeful and naã ¯ve American lawmakers like Frank B. Kellogg made the Kellogg-Briand Pact, marked by fifteen countries, which would as far as anyone knows shield America from the risk of war. In spite of the fact that the countries that marked made a deal to avoid utilizing war as an instrument of national approach, the Pact was totally futile on the grounds that it couldn't be implemented. Additionally, the Nine Power Treaty endeavored to keep the Open Door in China open by insisting the regional uprightness of the nation; be that as it may, the understanding was effortlessly broken by the Empire of Japan in 1931 with the attack of Manchuria. Despite the fact that Americans attacked Japan for ignoring universal arrangement understandings, there was nothing the U.S. could do â€short of warâ€that would stop Japanese animosity (Document A). So as to keep away from any accidental fiascos that may plunge the U.S. into war, Congress passed three successive Neutrality Acts from 1935-1937 planned for keeping Americans unbiased and out of harm’s way. In the event that Americans couldn't covertly help belligerents on either side, as they had in World War I, at that point, apparently, the U.S. would not be brought into the contention (Document C). In spite of the fact that Americans were angry with Japanese hostility, they selected to keep up quiet relations as far as might be feasible, as confirm by the Public Opinion Poll brings about 1939-1941 which show that a greater part of Americans contradicted war during this period (Document E). Be that as it may, the fall of France exhibited to the American individuals, more than everything else, the genuine danger autocracy could posture to American majority rule government. President Roosevelt understood that Britain required guide or probably the U.S. would turn into a solitary â€Å"free† country in a fundamentalist overwhelmed world. The American military should have been activated so as to help the Allies or majority rule government would be in grave peril. Roosevelt argue his case to the American individuals in his renowned â€Å"Quarantine Speech† in which he required a conclusion to risky nonintervention; be that as it may, his discourse was not generally welcomed and he was reprimanded for his longing to â€Å"entangle† the U.S in European remote issues (Document D). With Britain the main outstanding force battling against Germany, Roosevelt felt constrained to offer guide here and there. In 1940, Roosevelt strongly moved fifty World War I destroyers to Britain in return for eight significant protection bases extending from Newfoundland to South America. As bombs dropped over Britain, Americans started to understand that t heir advantages were unpredictably attached to Britain’s and that they should offer guide or, in all likelihood the fight would come to American soil soon. The objectives of American international strategy were turned around when Congress canceled the now dead Neutrality Acts and authoritatively finished their Neutrality. The U.S. started straightforwardly offering weapons to Britain on a â€Å"cash-and-carry† premise in order to stay away from assaults on American boats. At the point when this was insufficient, Roosevelt contrived the â€Å"lend-lease† framework that permitted Britain to obtain billions of dollars of American military gear to be returned toward the finish of the war. Americans at long last understood that the Atlantic Ocean would not shield them from Germany in the time of present day fighting, and that they should effectively secure their nation. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met at the Atlantic Conference to examine the hopeful inspirations driving the war and make the Atlantic Charter, an archive like Wilson’s â€Å"Fourteen Points,† clarifying the qualities that Britain and the U.S would try to maintain at the war’s end. The greatest takeoff from customary 1930s American neutralist believing was in the arrangement that attested the appropriate for individuals to decide their ruler, and pronounced another League of Nations to maintain this â€Å"peace of security† (Document D). Before the finish of 1941, the U.S. was planning for war at max throttle, egged on by the assault on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the most recent couple of long periods of the Roaring ‘20s the Hoover organization had set up approaches that disengaged America from the remainder of the world. The U.S. was succeeding and the personal satisfaction in America had never been higherâ€why interfere in European issues? Notwithstanding, as the 1940s drew closer, Americans understood that in the midst of the developing Fascist danger introduced by Hitler and Mussolini, the U.S. could no longer hole up behind the bogus deception of wellbeing offered by nonintervention. Americans gradually understood that their nation’s extreme destiny was attached to Britain’s. As American help for global mediation developed, the U.S.’s international strategy objectives changed to oblige help to Britain with an end goal to abstain from gambling American lives inall-out war. Lamentably, the assault on Pearl Harbor infuriated Americans so much that they called for sure fire retribution against Japanâ€p ermanently deleting noninterventionist thoughts from American personalities until the end of time.

How to Earn Scholarships for Volunteer Hours

Volunteering can be an amazing way to give back to your local community. But, for high school and college students, the benefits may go beyond good karma; they can actually land scholarships for volunteer service too. However, if they want to earn scholarships for volunteer work, your student does have to approach it the right way. To do that, they need to understand how scholarships for volunteer service work. Heres everything you need to know.Contents1 Can You Get a Scholarship for Volunteer Hours?2 Are There Volunteer Awards for High School Students?3 Do You Have to Volunteer with a Particular Organization?4 How Many Volunteer Hours to Get a Scholarship?5 Where Should You Volunteer to Get Scholarships?6 How Do You Win College Scholarships for Volunteering and Community Service? Can You Get a Scholarship for Volunteer Hours? To put it simply, yes, your student can get a scholarship for volunteer hours. However, volunteering doesnt necessarily mean your student is guaranteed to get a s cholarship. Most scholarships for volunteer work programs are competitive, just like any other award. Some scholarships concentrate on community service, so students with strong records of giving back have the most significant chance of receiving the award, regardless of their other credentials. Others consider volunteer hours along with other signs of merit, such as maintaining good grades, earning solid SAT or ACT scores, and taking a challenging course load in school. Each award has its own requirements for applying. Once the applications are received, a committee reviews the submissions and selects winners for the available scholarships by determining which students best represent the core values behind the award.Often, students who volunteer are seen as leaders in their communities, even if their position isnt officially in a leadership role. It also demonstrates they make giving back a priority, something many committees value. Are There Volunteer Awards for High School Students?Y es, there are volunteer awards for high school students. In fact, some scholarships that focus on volunteering allow teens as young as 13 to apply, giving your student a lot of time to earn some money for college.Even the awards that arent associated with a scholarship directly can help your high school student land scholarships. If they are recognized by a non-profit for their contributions, that award makes a great addition to their scholarship applications. This gives high schoolers plenty of options for getting the most out of their volunteer time.Do You Have to Volunteer with a Particular Organization? The short answer is, it depends. Some scholarships are awarded by non-profits to their volunteers. To be eligible, your student would need to meet their requirements, typically by volunteering a certain number of hours with that organization. However, if your student prefers to work with another non-profit, even one without its own scholarship program, they can go that route too.Ma ny scholarships for volunteer service arent restricted to time with a specific organization. Instead, volunteering with any reputable group can meet the requirements. This means volunteer hours at any suitable non-profit can help your student land those scholarships.Additionally, volunteering can help your student win scholarships with other groups too. Many scholarship applications give your student room to discuss their charitable contributions, even if the award isnt oriented to volunteering. Plus, your student can talk about their experiences in their scholarship essays, and that may help them stand out from other applicants.Ultimately, your student isnt usually restricted to a specific organization unless they are targeting a scholarship from that non-profit.How Many Volunteer Hours to Get a Scholarship?Heres another situation where the answer is, it depends. Some scholarships have a minimum number of hours that need to be completed before your student is eligible to apply, but others dont. For example, the Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship requests a minimum of 100 community service hours (and they have to be completed at a VA medical center). In contrast, the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship requires applicants have a demonstrated commitment to community service, so there isnt technically a minimum number of hours. However, it would be safe to say the more hours your student has before applying to a scholarship, the better.Certain programs, like the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, require students to participate in a community service job for 12 months. However, this award is guaranteed if your student completes a full year.If your student is aiming at scholarships for volunteer service specifically, they may need to complete more volunteer hours than a student who is using their charitable actions to bolster other scholarship applications that arent volunteering-oriented.Where Should You Volunteer to Get Scholarships? If your student is re ady to start volunteering, there are tons of options. While your student may need to work with a specific organization for certain scholarships, others are incredibly flexible.Along with local chapters of big-name charities, like Habitat for Humanity and the United Way, your student can explore:Animal SheltersCommunity CentersFood BanksSchoolsHospitalsNursing HomesYouth Sports LeaguesPlaces of Worship (Churches, Synagogues, and Mosques)LibrariesMuseumsParks or BeachesBoy or Girl ScoutsCertain government organizations may also accept volunteers, though this is less common, especially if your student is under 18.If your student wants to land scholarships for volunteer service, have them consider which causes are closest to their heart and encourage them to start exploring there. That will make their experience as rewarding as it is potentially lucrative. How Do You Win College Scholarships for Volunteering and Community Service?Aside from the few programs where an award is guaranteed ( like the AmeriCorps scholarship above), your student typically has to compete against other applicants. They will have to complete an application, provide supplemental documentation, and write essays. Then, the scholarship committee reviews the materials to select awards recipients. If your student would like to learn more about writing winning scholarship essays, here are some articles to help out:How to Win Scholarships with the Right Scholarship Essay FormatHow to Write Winning Scholarship EssaysScholarship Essay Examples That Won MoneyIf you want to find out how to locate scholarships for volunteer work, join our free webinar! Ethical dilemmas are a part of the healthcare field and it is important to know how to navigate through the murky waters that dilemmas can present. Nursing theories are a road map that allows nurses and healthcare workers to find the best option to resolve a problem. One of the theories developed was by Virginia Henderson and called the theory of need and is still being applied to nursing†¦show more content†¦The patient’s son accused the nursing staff of mistreating his mother by administering pain medications to frequently which was causing his mother to be overly sedated and would not allow administration of pain medicat ion without his approval first. Because the nursing staff was distressed over the son’s refusal to accept his mother’s condition, an ethics meeting was convened to decide what was ethically appropriate for the patient. After the meeting, the patient was changed to comfort care and nursing staff was allowed to administer medications as necessary to keep the patient comfortable. Week 4 Scholarly vs. Popular Media Focus on Sexuality Paper

Introduction This assignment will help you explore the way a topic in human sexuality is covered in two very different sources: 1) a scholarly journal; and 2) a popular media source. For more information to help you understand the difference between those sources, please use this link to the APU library http://apus.libanswers.com/a.php?qid=5312. You will summarize a scholarly article (peer-reviewed, evidence-based, original research) and one popular media article on your topic. Once you see how the topic is covered in each source, you will write a paper: 1. comparing and contrasting the coverage; 2. discussing the relative merits of each; and 3. addressing which of the two approaches (scholarly or popular media) is better†¦show more content†¦Ã‚ · Once you have found an acceptable article, read it completely.  · Read the abstract and introduction at the beginning and the conclusion at the end of the article first. The topic and hypothesis will be provided in these sections. Then read the methodology and data/results sections. Reading the introduction, summary, and abstract will help you better understand and follow the data-heavy results section. Step 2: Summarize the scholarly article  · Write a 1-page summary of the single scholarly article you selected, including:  · The hypothesis of the study on which the article reports.  · How the study was conducted, including:  · The group of people researched and written about (colleges students? adolescents? the elderly? military members? sexual minorities? etc.)  · The research method used (i.e. naturalistic observation, lab experiment, survey, etc.)  · The results of the study, the interpretation of the data by the authors and any conclusions they include at the end of the article.  · Edit and revise your summary for content, grammar, and APA format. Using APA format, identify the article title, the article authors, the journal in which the article was published, the date of publication, and the focus of the research. Step 3: Find and summarize the popular media article  · Find and analyze/summarize an article from the popular media that covers the same topic as the scholarly paper. An Analysis of Three Important Messages from Rime of the...

In the course of our lives, many of us, for the most part have committed some sort of mistake or wrong doing. These mistakes can be small, others not so much. Sometimes our mistakes have consequences that will come after them, leading to the conclusion of learning from our mistake. However, from a religious perspective, mistakes are either made up by repentance or a penance. The penance part is a sort of punishment in order to make up for the wrong doing you have committed. I, being Catholic, a form of penance have been familiar to me, since a very small age. The penance given to the man in â€Å"Rime of the Ancient Mariner† is in fact credibly harsh. However, we can learn from our mistakes, in doing this we can look at the messages in the poem†¦show more content†¦As he states, â€Å"Since then, at an uncertain hour, that agony returns and till my ghastly tale is told this heart within me burns.† (Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, page 844, lines 582-585 ) This penance given to this ancient mariner shows and tells us that all forms of life are precious and should not be harmed. This goes for the bird that he killed at sea and for the boy he is speaking to and trying to pass this message along so that hopefully no one in the future ends up with the â€Å"agony in his heart† to tell of the evil he has committed. The final important message from this poem is to treat all life with respect. This main point is the climax of the mariner’s tale. He states, â€Å"All things both great and small; for the dear God who loveth us, He made and loveth all.† When the boy hears this final statement he is put into a short of trance. No longer does he want to attend the wedding party or no longer does he have the same view of life as he did before. This mariner has told him to treat all life with respect, such as he didn’t do with the albatross, and now I believe the boy sees what position this ancient mariner is now. T his boy has shown this man the respect he needs and now the larger lesson of treating life with respect was shown to the boy. Effect Of Increasing Business Investment †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Effect Of Increasing Business Investment. Answer: In this particular discussion paper, the economic scenario of Australia has been critically analysed based on interest rate decisions of the Reserve Bank of Australia. The mounting pressure of government budget deficit can be identified as one of the largest economic challenges for Turnbull government. Under the current circumstances, in order to reduce the budget deficit, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has cut down the government expenditure in all fronts. As a result of the consequences, investors are reluctant to invest in the economy. In order to tackle the uncertainties of the Australian economy, the RBA has kept the benchmark interest rate to record low at 1.5 percent so that the borrowers will be encouraged to invest in the market (Letts, 2017). Precisely, the impact of the fall in the interest rate on the business investment in Australia has been elaborated in the study. At the same time, the study discusses the effect of increasing business investment due to lower interest rates on the aggregated demand curve, real GDP, and price level in the Australian economy. During the time of economic slowdown, Central Banks of leading as well as developing economies have lowered the benchmark interest rate to boost the economy. In the meanwhile, lower benchmark interest rate policy implemented by the RBA can be considered as one of the vital aspects of Monetary Policy. In the last five years, the Reserve Bank of Australia has reduced the interest rate from 4.25 percent in 2012 to 1.5 percent in 2017 (Tradingeconomics.com, 2017). Hence, an increase in the flow of money can be evident in the Australian market due to the fall in the Banks interest rate. Figure 1 has been given herein below to present the last five years Interest Rate in Australia: Figure 1: Australia Interest Rate (2012 2017) Source: (Tradingeconomics.com, 2017) Precisely, due to the lower rate of benchmark interest, borrowing will be cheaper (Catala?n, Guajardo and Hoffmaister, 2008). As a result of the consequences, both the spending and investment will increase boosting the economic progress and stability. Invariably, lower interest rate provides a smaller return from savings. Therefore, the social public tends to spend the money or invest the money rather than holding the capital (Forstater, 2016). In this way, spending, as well as investment in the market, has been increased. Furthermore, the lower rate of interest rate encourages the consumers and business firms to take loans as borrowing costs are reduced. As a result of the scenario, spending and investments are encouraged leading to greater finance. In addition, lower interest rates contribute to the rising prices of assets such as housing. Due to asset buying, the price of housing will increase so as the consumer confidence (Heath, 2017). Thus, the consumer spending will be higher as well. Based on such aspects, it can be said that lower rate of interest implemented by the RBA will certainly encourage higher investment and spending in the Australian economy. On the basis of the above discussion, it can be assumed that the lower interest rate will increase the business investment in Australian economy. However, the increase in business investment will have certain impact on aggregated demand curve, real Gross Domestic Product, and price level in the Australian economy. The impact of the increase in business investment on the aggregate demand, GDP and Price level has been demonstrated using the figure 2 as below: Figure 2: Impact of increase business investment on Aggregated Demand curve, real Gross Domestic Product, and Price Level Source: (Forstater, 2016) Due to increase in business investment followed by lower benchmark interest rate, the money supply will be increased in the economy. For instance, the increase in business investment will increase the income of the people in Australia resulting in an increase in the purchasing power of the buyers. As a result, the aggregated demand curve will be shifted towards right side from AD to AD1 indicating an increase aggregated demand (Forstater, 2016). Convincingly, as shown in figure 1, the increase in monetary flow due to lower interest rate will cause a rise in aggregated demand. However, the aggregate supply will remain constant in the short run as there is no chance of utilisation more resources in a shorter period of time (Phan, 2014). Hence, the aggregate supply curve will remain constant at AS as presented in the above figure. By following the theory of demand and supply, the rise in the aggregate demand in the market due to the fall in the borrowing rate and increase in the flow of money, the aggregate price level of the product in the Australian economy is expected to increase. On the basis of figure 2, it can be seen that the shift in the aggregate demand curve from AD to AD1 leads to an increase in the aggregate price level from P1 to P2. Therefore, an increase in inflation can be evident in the Australian economy (Fender, 2012). Moreover, the rise in the aggregate demand will also lead to increase in the aggregate consumption that will further increase the real GDP of the nation. For instance, it can be seen from figure 2 that the real GDP of Australia will increase from Q1 to Q2 due to the increase in the aggregate consumption because of the rise in aggregate demand (Scott, Rabanal and Kannan, 2009). Hence, it can be clearly seen from the above illustration that the fall in the interest rate by the R eserve Bank of Australia will lead to increase in the business investment in the nation that will further increase the aggregate demand, real GDP and price level. By considering the above analysis, it can be seen that the decision of reducing the interest rate works in the favour of the Australian economy. The fall in the interest rate will increase the flow of money in the market that will gradually increase business investment. Additionally, the increase in the business investment will increase the earning of the people and enhance the buyers purchasing power. Furthermore, the increase in business investment will boost up the Australian economy by increasing the aggregate demand, price level of products and services and the real GDP of the nation. Earnings Management to Avoid Earnings Decreases and Losses

Question: Describe about the facts about Earnings Management to Avoid Earnings Decreases and Losses? Answer: Introduction The company taken for the study is GAP INC. It is a retail operator in global apparel which operates in 90 countries. The hypothesis is tested through the annual reports of Gap Inc. taken between the years 2010 and 2015. Particular emphasis is given to the years 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. The study is made in three parts. The first part is about the finding of Charles et al. on Other Comprehensive Income (OCI) and AOCI. The second part is about earnings management and trends in estimates according to the findings of Burgstahler and Dichev. The third part is about News Disclosures, their timeline and market reaction. Literature Overview Other Comprehensive Income From the financial reports of Gap Inc, we find that the comprehensive income comprises of net income as well as other gains and losses that affect equity and excluded from net income. The OCI components are Foreign currency translation gains and losses, net of tax; Changes in the fair value of derivative financial instruments, net of tax Adjustments reclassified for realized gains and losses on derivative financial instruments, net of tax. Annual Reports for study of GAP INC Annual Report 2011(Murphy, 2011 Annual Report) Annual Report 2012(Murphy, 2012 Annual Report) Annual Report 2013(Murphy, 2013 Annual Report) Annual Report 2014(Peck) Proxy Report 2015(Yahoo) Charles et al study and FASB(Chambers, Lismeier and Shakespeare) Charles et al have made a study comparing findings between tests, where comprehensive income using as-reported income post-SFAS 130 period and pre-SFAS 130 period to ascertain the measurement error effect on returns-relevance tests on OCI. The study is made to show that OCI is not priced by investors. Two components of ICI, which are unrealized gains/losses on securities available-for-sale, are priced by investors. According to archival evident, OCI report in shareholders equity in the statement of changes is weighted heavier than OCI as present in performance statements by investors. Pension adjustments in performance statements have been weighted negatively while that, which is reported in statement of changes in equity, provides a positive weight by investors. OCI is priced as predicted by the economic theory relating to transitory income items post-SFAS 130 on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Financial statement of GAP INC. The financial statements of Gap Inc help to study findings of Charles et al for a period of five years from 2010 to 2016 (February). OCI in financial statement or footnotes We find that Gap Inc has incorporated the updated FASB accounting standards in their annual reports from 2012 with unrealized gain/loss for each component both in the financial statements and in footnotes. Unrealized gains and losses that relate to investments, derivative hedges and foreign currency fluctuations are main components of OCI. The derivative financial instruments gains and losses which are designated as cash flow hedges are reported as a component of OCI. Unrealized gains and losses on marketable securities and foreign currency translations are two components that are estimated by Item 238- marketable securities adjustment and item 230- retained earnings-cumulative translation adjustment respectively. It is (in $M) 28 in 2014; 17 in 2013 and 6 in 2012(Peck). The footnotes of Gap Inc. state long-term debt in note 5 including interest expense; share-based compensation in note 10; leases in note 11; income taxes in note 12; employee benefits plans in note 13; earnings per share in note 14 and segment information in note 16 (Murphy, 2013 Annual Report). Prominent display for user to incorporate in their analysis Derivatives in cash flow hedging relationship show gains recognized in OCI as $166 in 2014; $78 in 2013 and $46 in 2012. The consistency in cash flow helps to measure earnings over time. The publication of separate statements helps to establish the relevance of the components of OCI. The asset group is available at its lowest level with identifiable cash flows and is largely independent of its cash flows within another group of assets. Consistent signals in companies about earnings quality have low persistent earnings. This is due to negative forecast revisions and high accruals or positive forecast revisions and low accruals. We find that Charles et al has made the study stating that unrealized gains and losses which are components of OCI are from 1) sponsoring defined benefit pension plans 2) re-measure of net assets from foreign subsidiaries 3) Hedging derivatives 4) holding marketable securities. Earnings Management/Trends in Earnings (Burgstahler and Dichev) Burgstahler and Dichev have found strong evidence to the fact the earnings are managed by firms to control loss and decrease in income. About 12% manage earnings and avoid a decrease in earnings. About 44% manage earnings to show positive earnings. They point out that the cash flow from operations is used to manage earnings (Burgstahler and Dichev). Long-term summary of income in the annual report. Though its income fell in 2011 from $1204m to $833 m, it has been steadily increasing from $833m to $2390m in 2015. The market value of the company for the beginning of each year as well as the earnings per share has been taken from Fortune 500. The scaled changes in yearly earnings are calculated as: Scaled changes = (This years earnings-last years earnings)/Last years beginning market value. From Table 4.1we find that the scaled earnings have fallen less than zero in 2011 and 2014 due to lower earnings. In 2014 it is very close to zero and has missed it very marginally; however it has recorded a steep fall in 2011. In 2012, 2013 and 2015, it has fallen on the positive side of zero. This scaling shows systematic relations between signs of market price and earnings(Gardner). The scaled value has fallen most in 2011(Huddleston). Burgstahler and Dichev show that scaled earnings distribution exhibit discontinuities at zero and that mangers have to take both accounting and real actions to avoid loss. It also shows that managers feel inclined to incur real costs in order to reach targets. The estimated earnings per share have been taken from the website Fortune 500. By comparing the actual with the estimated earnings, we find that the actual earnings per share is more than the estimate marginally in 2010 while in 2011 it has decreased marginally. However in 2015 the actual and estimated earnings per share are equal. An investor appreciates a company that shows positive movement and is able to surpass estimates. It makes him retain his investment in the company as he would get good returns. Conclusion With the proposed change to the 2007 amendment to IAS 1, the users make use of OCI components information regarding the timing and amount of future cash flows, financial instruments and employee benefits(Norwalk). Chambers et al. have found that two components of OCI which are foreign currency translation adjustment as well as unrealized gains/losses on available-for-sale securities have been priced by investors. Burgstahler and Dichev methodology has also been applied to show that income is manipulated to project a better picture to the user. The market fluctuates to good, bad, neutral and mixed news and it is found true through the analysis of the reports of Gap Inc. The Power and the Glory of the Roman Empire Essay Example

The Power and the Glory of the Roman Empire Paper I am greatly marveled by the wonderful pictures and information the article tackles on certain details of the Roman world where textbooks normally take for granted. Such examples mentioned in the article, covers what Romans do in their leisure time and details on the structure of the city, which then leads to how its leaders turned Rome to be one of the richest, and most powerful metropolises the world has ever witnessed. It is a good thing that the author started on the foundation of the topic by defining the terminologies and then interconnecting it with other issues. The author presented such information of Rome, its culture, its magnificent blueprint of the city and the other aspects of certain power and strategies manipulated by its leaders, with such creativity that a normal textbook lack. Thus, making it more interesting to read alongside its pictures that reassure us of the glory of the whole Roman Empire. The article is supported by additional information like the formation of the calendar, Marcus Licinius Crassus and the city of Pompey. As I read the part about Pompey, I cant help but imagine it happening before my eyes and be heartbroken by the whole event and at same time, I marvel at the remains of this city. The information unearthed in this city adds to what there was in a Roman town back then. How such work of art also serves as public signs. The actual seeds and pollens seen here tell us what people were eating, another is the minerals in paint and vegetable dyes in scraps of cloth, which reveals about their trade patterns. And lastly, the article describes how such locations played a major role in history, where struggles of order were played out. Combining all these information, I believe that technology also helped in the way of saving these artifacts and also digging carefully and efficiently. For a couple of decades now the leaders of Europe have been struggling to implement a revolutionary and furiously controversial concept: a single European currency. Governments have fallen, fists have flown, and bitter curses have been exchanged in a variety of Romance and Germanic languages over this visionary idea. So explosive are the politics of the proposed Euro that the notion of a single coinage for so many different peoples is an impossible dream. I strongly disagree with T. R. Reids statement, I believe that such revolutionary concept is possible, for there was a time when the Roman Empire has a single currency, a single code and a single Emperor. Rome had a signal achievement in the sheer art of governing. Just like how the Greeks tried and tested all kinds of governing concepts and given us descriptions about it, the Romans, already experienced such revolution. The only roadblock to making this concept come alive is arguments that governments raise about, may it be for their own benefit or their defeat. As Rome is best known to be the most rich and powerful metropolis that the world has witnessed then, there is an assurance to such concept. As a student is drowsed by the unending textbooks and definitions, I believe that this article will alleviate such problem and aid a student in their quest for knowledge. Such information is discussed with illustrations, with pride and excitement that you cant help but be attracted more to the Roman Empire. In this article I believe just the same that a student will be able to put together all the facts that they have learned, link it with the textbook and this additional information and great illustrations on the city of Rome which technology has structured out for us. The article focuses on events that caused certain turnabouts, and also gives us a timeline of the 1st Emperor-Augustus up to Constantine. I say this with zest because I myself have been attracted to such wonder.

Television Censhorship and how it changes the way we live.

Television Censhorship and how it changes the way we live. " F*** Television Censorship"by Ben FlickAccess is threatened today by the government by putting a brown paper bag around "risquÂÆ'Â ©" material on the Internet and television. Industry, responding both to government pressure and consumer demand, has compounded the problem by creating easy tools for censorship. Government is privatizing censorship, pushing it out. Recently there have been efforts to make television and the Internet "family friendly," by giving parents tools to create "kid-safe" environments. But the consequences may be far-reaching, as the tools used in the home to shield children from certain ideas and images increasingly appear in schools and libraries, where they limit the ability of the entire community to gain access to valuable information. The promise of the electronic media - to create a more vibrant and democratic "marketplace of ideas" than has ever before been possible - could be undermined, if rating and filtering is widely embraced.Saniresch shooting f or children’s television pro...By directing a bright light at these censorship tools, we may persuade viewers and users to resort not to ratings and filters, but to open and unfettered access to information and freedom of expression to demand more speech, not enforced silence. The Telecommunications Act creates a statutory scheme to regulate content of television programming. It mandates that new television sets be equipped with a V-chip capable of blocking programs, and it requires to prescribe guidelines to identify programming containing sexual, violent or other indecent material to help parents limit children's viewing - unless the television/cable industry "voluntarily" devises its own "acceptable" rules for labeling programs. The terms "violent" "sexual" or "indecent" are not defined in the Act. In July 1997, the major networks, with the exception of NBC, agreed to begin using TV Parental Guidelines, a television rating system, to supplement the previously introduced mo vie-style age-based rating: TV-G...

Systems Project Management Approach Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Systems Project Management Approach - Essay Example It happens separate from business as usual and the management of projects is normally separate. Project management therefore requires the managers and their teams to develop distinct technical skills and management strategies (Project management institute, 2000). Some of the main challenges include scope, time, quality and budget. While other ones that can come in secondary include optimizing the allocation of necessary inputs and integrates them to meet the objectives (Wheeler, 2000). Organizational Situation The project in question is called Versace. It involves 9 Customer requests. The project is for a global brand management company which has customers located all over the world. Flow of work in the company is illustrated in Figure 3. Customer contacts Administrator by email or phone requesting label design to be created. Then Administrator summarizes Customer request and then passes over to an Artist. After Artist created label design he then passes over the design to Quality Co ntrol Department who evaluates the label design and checks if Customer brief been followed. If Artist made a mistake then QD (Quality Department) sends label back to an Artist to get it amended and if label is correct then it is being transferred back to Administrator. Administrator then checks the design to make sure it is correct and if it is wrong she then sends it back to Artist and if it is correct then she adds costs and sends design over to Customer. After Customer received the design he then evaluates and checks if brief been followed. For this project as many other projects within the company Right First Time (RFT) is very low as customer majority of times adds additional request and workflow is being repeated as many times as customer sends additional changes. It is important to note that each project for each action has set timelines as per below Figure 1 however customer demands for designs to be delivered quicker then set deadlines. Figure 1 - Set Action Timelines 1st A ction (A) 3 Days 2nd Action (B) 2 Days 3rd Action (C) 2 Days 4th Action (D) 2 Days 5th Action (E) 2 Days Figure 2 reflects actual times each action taken for specific number of label designs- Versace. Figure 2 Action Number of Labels Days taken to complete Right First Time % A 1 3 11.1% B 2 4 22.2% C 4 5 44.4% D 1 6 11.1% E 1 7 11.1% Figure 3 - Flow of Work - Versace Systems Project Management Approach The lean systems management approach was chosen due to the fact that lean system methodology regards to project management that all tasks need to serve the purpose of the customer as efficiently as possible (Atkinson, 2006). As outlined above all tasks for the project are in place to serve customer request. Critical discussion on why lean system project management was used Versace project can be described as dynamic and unpredictable as customer requested for extra changes to be done and demanded for timelines to be reduced for actions B/C/D/E. This was not foreseen prior project star ting (Leach, 2005). This therefore increased the duration of the project which affects interaction between activities and resources in ways that are not considered in the traditional methods of project management (Koskela, 2002). The reduction of time for the project actions therefore

Ideal Sampling Frame in Marketing Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 4

Ideal Sampling Frame in Marketing - Assignment Example The scale is mostly used by marketers when previous information about a particular product is not available. If the marketer simply base his decision of manufacturing a product on the basis of the results that state that more consumer has selected the probably will buy and definitely will buy the product, then he may end up making a mistake because usually very low number of consumers who state that definitely will buy might not actually buy the product. Â  The ideal sampling frame is a term used to denote a sample frame in which the entire population is accessible and no one is missing, this does not take place in the real world. In the absence of such frame, an alternate way called representative sampling can be utilized to determining the same sample frame may be used with aid of characteristics of the sample that need to be tested. Â  Probability sampling is referred to the selection of samples that are selected on a random basis and not in accordance with the convenience of the researcher. Non-probability sampling arises when samples are selected in a random manner in accordance with convenience. Example: Conducting a survey of the school you study and selecting school students as sample. Â

Antisocial Behaviour Essay Example for Free

Antisocial Behaviour Essay In Britain antisocial behaviour between young people is a widely argued subject in the British media. More and more Brits at the age 13-18 are dropping out of school or work-based training and refuse to return. These young people are more than likely to face criminal action possibly leading to a fine or community sentence. But when we are talking about the term â€Å"Anti-social Behaviour†, then we need to know what it exactly means. The British â€Å"crime disorder act† of 1998 describes the term n anti-social manner, that is to say, in a manner that caused or was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons So to simplify, Antisocial behaviour is when a person is forced by his or hers environment to cause harassment to one-self or the persons surroundings, and as far as I understand the subject antisocial behaviour does not have to be of criminal nature, but it is more than likely to be so. In 2007 the percentage of 16 to 17-year-olds not in education, employment or training was 9 percent. It is exactly these young people who are the targets for becoming antisocial. So how do you make sure that these unfortunate teenagers don’t end in this so unfortunate situation and is it possible to force the teenagers to behave in a more civilised way? There are actually many suggestions for a solution to this nationwide problem. Some of them are quit controversial and are more likely to stop antisocial teenagers doing crime, than to prevent teenagers to not at all become antisocial. One of these alternative solutions is the â€Å"Mosquito† which is a sonic device that gives out a piercing noise audible only to teenagers and people in there early twenties. This device has been installed as a â€Å"yob† (slang for an antisocial person) deterrent at nearly 3,000 locations such as grocers and shopping malls across Great Britain. This Mosquito is a camouflaged speaker box not larger than shoebox and it sends out a pulse at 18 kilohertz which in the last end will give the young people acting antisocial in front of the store a terrible headache so they quickly leave the store. This method of fighting antisocial behaviour among teens has been shown very effective. In some stores in the UK crime outside the stores had dropped by 83 % since the device was installed. The device has actually earned so much respect among shopkeepers and government officials that some are considering that the Mosquito should be obligatory by law in most public places by night. So it is quite obvious to see all the positive aspects but not all are so enthusiastic. Chief constables in Britain say they are scared the Mosquito is going to infringe human rights. Authorities say that the device is indiscriminating and that people should consider the effects on the young people, because not all young people are antisocial yobs. So you can see that the meanings about the Mosquito vary quite a lot. The device is very effective against the teens that already are in the antisocial environment but the device is not at all preventive. So what could be done if you the British teenagers to not even think about becoming antisocial. The British former PM Tony Blair wants to force errant schoolchildren back to school by using dedicated truancy officers which will be deployed in the 200 schools with biggest yob and truancy problems. This plan spans over using more than ? 70m to stamp out antisocial behaviour, as well as 24,000 community support officers will also be conducting these truancy sweeps so they can force the teens back to school. The plan does also include tougher punishments to the yobs when they get caught. This is of course a very controversial method to tackle antisocial behaviour but it could be showing really effective because it is preventive and helps the teenagers in trouble before they become antisocial yobs. But of course as mentioned by opponents of the plan, the plan is so ambitious and expensive that it more looks like â€Å"a mish-mash of gimmick and spin† than an actual plan, which within realistic measures would be preventive without costing the country enormous amounts of money and labour. So here we have two very different plans which in two very different ways will deal with two very important parts of the subject antisocial behaviour among British teens. I do not think that there is any exactly solution to this very important problem in British cities, small towns and schools but of course the Mosquito has already proven its worth in more than 3,000 locations with success and has made it safer for those people being harassed by the yobs in the public. But unfortunately the Mosquito does not help educating the teens; it just makes the yobs find an other place for them to be at. The most important factor in this case is that you need to stop the antisocial behaviour in its process and not when it already has affected the young teenagers. So perhaps Tony Blair’s plan is the right way to do it, though I personally believe that the plan is way too focussed on hard punishment than in are pedagogical way. I don’t believe that tough punishment is the way of teaching youngsters today.

BLOOD AND BELONGING :: essays research papers fc

This is a critique of the book, Blood and Belonging, by Michael Ignatieff. This paper will explain the subject of the book and its relevance, discuss Michael Ignatieff's methods and conclusions on the subject and finally include a personal critique of the book by the author of this paper. The author of the book travels on what he terms "the six journeys." On these "journeys" he encounters different cultures, as he travels to six different coinciding areas of the world. He examines the unique expression of nationalism that each populace displays by interviewing various members of that particular society. The six areas that he travels to are specifically chosen for the clarity which nationalism is expressed in society. Nationalism is a factor contributing toward both present possible future instability in these areas. These areas are former Yugoslavia (specifically Croatia and Serbia), Germany, Ukraine, Quebec, Kurdistan and Northern Ireland. According to Ignatieff, in Croatia and Serbia there is a desire for a separate identity between the two nations. The fear of losing one's national identity has caused ethnic hatred. A terror so strong and historically persistent, it has driven people to a desperate state to do anything. This is a large contributor to the reasons for the extreme violence present there today. The author states, "A Croat, thus, is someone who is not a Serb. A Serb is someone who is not a Croat." This quotation profoundly expresses the short-sighted mentality present in their conflict. In his travels in Germany, the author points out an important question. Does the nation make the state, or the state the nation? This question by far does not stop here, especially when Germany is the subject. The essence of the German people is seen by some as aggressive and offensive, thus the existence of the German problem. If the nation makes the state then Germany will always be a threat. If the state makes the nation, then the aggressive nature of the German nation, which lead the world into two global wars, can be harnessed and redirected. The question has its roots and answers in the recent reunification of Germany. The Ukraine is concerned with not being Russian. It is here Ignatieff receives a complete vision of what nationalism is. He states, "I understand what nationalism really is: the dream that a whole nation could be like a congregation; singing the same hymns, listening to the

Scope Case Study

STRATEGIC MARKETING Mid-Semester Exam Spring, 2009 Name: Erika Woodhouse 1. Evaluate the changes that have occurred in the Canadian mouthwash market in the past three years and their impact of Scope. Be specific. (20) In 1987 the growth rate for the mouthwash market experienced a 26 percent increase due to the introduction of new flavors. Brands were adding unique customization to attract consumers to their brand, and as a result the market as a whole grew. Since then the growth rate has declined to a level of 5 percent. 2. Management believes that the status quo is the best strategy. The team has been asked to make the case for and against this position, including in their discussion an evaluation of the positions of all or almost all members of the team. (20) a. _ Status quo_ b. _ Against status quo_ Scope should take action anddo something to compete with Plax and Listerine’s new claims. Proctor & Gamble states in their statement of purpose and strategy, â€Å"We will continuously stay ahead of competition while aggressively defending our established profitable business against major competitive challenges despite short term profit consequences. Therefore doing nothing is simple not an option. The market had an increase of 5 percent last year, while Scope suffered from a . 7 percent loss. Plax as a new competitor to the marked was able to achieve a 10 percent market share in over only three years, and will continue to grow and could take from our share if nothing is done. If we created a ‘better tasking pre-brush rinse’ we can also compare this to Scope when entered the market. Scope had all the same attributes of Listerine but offered a better taste, and was able to penetrate the market and be successful with a 12 percent market share in one year. 3. Management has wondered what impact the line extension strategy (using the Scope name) would have on overall profits of the Division if the price were held constant and if the price were increased 10 percent, assuming current volume. Accounting has provided the following information to assist in your analysis: Current variable cost: 20. 2/unit Variable cost likely increase with the line extension: 13% Total fixed cost: $2. 5 million + advertising, promotion, and general office costs. Scope should not introduce a line extension to compete. A line extension with the scope name would be likely to confuse its current customers. Also if the product fails it could reflect poorly on Scope. They also don’t have the ability to make a superior product; therefore they could hurt the brand image of providing qualit y and value.
