In regard to this, the organization offers a lot of medical job opportunities to both U.S citizens and non-citizens. Recently, there is an open job position for a nurse practitioner. Since the organization is guided by its set missions and vision, the candidate who will qualify for the job must undergo the selection process. This selection process will involve nine steps that include; Preparing a new position or reviewing an existing position that might have changed or preparing a Job Description Questionnaire (JDQ). This step is significant as it lays the base for the following steps. In these steps, the human resource will be responsible to complete some of the steps. For example, the human personnel will be the one to understand the employment laws to guide the nurse manager about the hiring and selection process. He or she will be the one to announce the vacant position, prepare the interview questions and scoring criteria. Metacognition Student Achievement Essay Metacognition has generally been described as thinking about oneââ¬â¢s own thoughts. The realization that a human being cannot exist in isolation of his inner self, that he is constantly probing that dam of his very essence to evaluate situations and resolve the never-ending puzzles that daily confront him. Kornell (2009), has described metacognition as self-reflection and conscious awareness. An even more elaborate definition is that given by Serendip (2009). He defines it as ââ¬Å"a reflective practice that helps one discern general patterns in oneââ¬â¢s own views and abilitiesâ⬠. Whichever definition one feels comfortable with, it cannot be said to be superior to the other, because metacognition deals with the intangible and cannot be weighed on a scale. It has, however, been the subject of widespread research all over the world. Psychologists are now asking themselves, what causes that tip of the tongue experience, when you are sure you know someoneââ¬â¢s name but cannot recall it? Or what is at play when one conveys a feeling of uncertainty? Why is it that humans are able to have certain cognitive abilities that animals apparently do not have? For example, if asked what year America gained independence, one may readily recall with certainty, or one may say with complete uncertainty that he does not know. The answer may also lie in between, showing a certain degree of uncertainty by replying, for example, I think it was 1776. Whatever answer one gives, it demonstrates an ability to question oneââ¬â¢s memory and experience. According to studies that have been done, this ability can be improved. Thus, the science of metacognition is now rampant, with studies being carried out on the cognitive abilities of monkeys, children, students, and ways in which they can be improved. Metacognition 2 One study which was carried out to test the cognitive abilities of rhesus monkeys, was that conducted by Kornell, Son Terrace (2007). In this trial, the monkeys were initially trained to select a given picture from a sample of six pictures by touching the image on a touch-screen monitor. After this training period, they were shown six sample pictures which were then simultaneously removed and replaced with nine, one of the previous six being among them. As soon as they selected the sample they thought was among the previous six, they were required to bet on their choice by depressing an icon on the screen for certainty, with a reward of redeemable food tokens, or loss of tokens, if wrong. A further icon for a low risk bet was also there. After carrying out this experiment for a suitable period of time, they concluded that the monkeys would invariably only bet when they were sure that they knew the correct answer. The researchers were therefore of the opinion that the monkeys were guided by a cognitive ability. They also tested two monkeys on metacognitive control. This is the ability to use metacognitive ability to influence behavior. An example would be requesting for a hint when one is unsure of an answer, a common trait with humans. In this trial, two monkeys were presented with a few sample pictures to place in a certain order. They were also availed of onscreen visual hints if they needed. The penalty for using the hints was a less appetizing banana flavored pellet, instead of the more attractive MM candy. As the test progressed, it became apparent that the monkeys were using the hints less and less, and would only resort to them when they were sure that they did not know the right answer. This ability to have control over oneââ¬â¢s metacognitive ability had been tested on humans for many years, and it was only now that it was becoming clear that it was also present in animals. However, how prevalent this is among them, cannot be clear and it cannot be generalized from this study that only involved rhesus monkeys. Metacognition 3 Smith Washbum (2005) have taken animal research a notch higher and carried out trials that probe the memory, referred to as monitoring the memory. In the test, animals which were given various tasks to do based on what they had done before, declined to engage in the more difficult tasks, a result that was the same as similar tests carried out on humans. The animals were selective and seemed to have the same analogous capacity as human. There was no doubt that they were using their metacognitive abilities to seek in their memories, and when they remembered that the task was arduous, they declined to take the test. Kornell Terrace (2007) also carried out some trials seeking to find out if monkeys benefited from learning. They did this with two rhesus monkeys which were given two problem sets to solve. In one difficult set, they were given hints to assist them after a suitable training period. In the other set, they were given no hints. The number of hints they used to solve the problem set steadily declined over time, the performance, however, did not change, it stayed the same. The monkeys were solving the problem with skills they had acquired from the hints and were using them less and less because they had ââ¬Å"learnedâ⬠. This is fascinating and opens up very interesting questions about the training of animals. There are other areas of animal metacognitive behavior which have been studied. Hampton, R (2009), carried out studies on rhesus monkeys to determine if they made decisions when they had information, or sought information when ignorant and immediately made a decision. The results were quite revealing. They carried out two sets of tests. In one test, the monkeys witnessed food being inserted into some opaque test tubes. These tests were referred to as the seen trials. In the other test, the food was inserted into test tubes without their knowledge. Metacognition 4 The monkeys were then required to identify the tubes which had food in them. In trial after trial, they would first look down the tubes to ascertain if the food was there and if it was, they selected the tube. What was evident from these tests is that the monkeys sought information first, by peering down the tubes, when ignorant, and only immediately selected the correct tubes without investigating, when they knew the food was there. That means they knew when they knew and only sought information when they knew that they did not know. This is a characteristic which is prevalent among human children, orangutans and rhesus monkeys. It is, however, not clear with capuchin monkeys when they were exposed to a similar trial about a decade before. There is room for more research on animals. According to Smith Washbum, a lot needs to be investigated regarding the gifts different animals have. For example, monkeys and dolphins seem to exhibit more cognitive abilities than pigeons, whose reactions appear to be more stimulus based. Further research in this area can yield very important information which may stimulate a whole spectrum of research into cognitive abilities of different animal specie. Additionally, there is a lot of room into studies on the ability or lack of ability of animals to make quantitative judgements, for example, their mood. Metacognitive abilities is also a subject of importance in developing learning capabilities for children. Loh, A (2009), has made suggestions on methods to use to improve metacognition learning for children as young as two year olds. Since parents spend the most amount time with children of this age, they are best placed to practice the techniques recommended by Loh. He says that children should be encouraged to think about their thinking process in order to develop their intellect and intelligence. Children should be engaged, soon after an activity, to gauge their Metacognition 5 thinking process and the techniques they used for a task. Immediately after this activity, they should be asked certain questions, for example : 1. They should be asked about the process they used to achieve the result. This way, they will recall the steps and learn the process. 2. What strategies did they use? This will engage them actively in the thinking process by beginning to adopt strategic thinking of alternative techniques they can use to achieve better results. 3. What do they think about the end result? Is it good or bad? This will help them to evaluate their work. 4. Offer them puzzling tasks that have more than one solution. This exposes them to cognitive conflicts 5. Engage them in debates and discussions with other children 6. Allow them to practice reciprocal teaching where they form groups and one child teaches members of his group. 7. Once they engage on a task, allow them to continue undisturbed. Help them with clues if they get stuck. Further, they can be assisted with questions that will incline them to probe their mind even more, for example, what they learned from the task and what they found difficult. Additionally, they can be probed to find out if they have a next goal and what will help them to achieve it. Metacognition 6 There has been more research in the field of metacognitive abilities of children. Young childrenââ¬â¢s understanding of mental life, or ââ¬Å"theory of mindâ⬠, is an area that is currently being explored by various scientists. According to science daily (2008), a new study had made a link between theory of mind as assessed in kindergarten children and their metacognitive abilities in elementary school. Early theory of mind competencies positively influenced metacognitive abilities acquired later. 174 children between the ages of three and four were used as study subjects to investigate this relationship. Wolfgang Schneider, P. H. D. , of the University of Wurzburg, who carried out the trial, said that knowledge from this research can be used to develop training programs for young children. For all the progress that has been done on metacognition in animals and children, none can rival that of learners. The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (2009), says that students with metacognitive needs have difficulties in setting priorities and planning their tasks. Additionally: 1. They are poor at strategizing in order to accomplish a task methodically 2. They procrastinate and are unable to start their work. 3. They are inattentive and make careless mistakes. 4. They are not able to identify their faults or know how to seek help. With these type of students they recommend the following teaching strategies : 1. Teachers should tutor them on how to plan and show them the scoring rubric for the assignment. 2. They should be taught on estimation of time needed to complete a task. 3. They should be assisted with think-aloud strategies. Metacognition 7 4. They should be cajoled to get engaged actively in their work by asking them how they are doing the work and how they will remember to solve the problem. 5. Teachers should be specific in their assignments to students by providing scoring rubrics for each question and how they have been calculated. However, Pierce (2004), dealt even deeper in metacognition for students. He was of the opinion that study strategies were generalized and teachers did not teach them in class. They assumed that students had already learned them. When they taught a strategy, students used the same strategy taught for all subjects. According to him, students needed to acquire three types of knowledge in order to improve their metacognitive abilities. These are : 1. Declarative knowledge which is having at their grasp factual information, for example, speed is distance divided by time taken. 2. Procedural knowledge which is knowing how to do something. Using the previous example of speed, they should know the formula for speed and the steps required in its calculation. 3. Conditional knowledge ââ¬â This is knowing when to use a certain procedure and why one strategy is better than another. In applying the three types of knowledge for study strategies for example, students need declarative knowledge to know that a high school history textbook is different from an article analyzing the same textbook. They need procedural knowledge to take notes from such a textbook and conditional knowledge to know when such notes should be taken. According to Pierce, study techniques improve learning but are hardly ever taught. Additionally, many students do not internalize success as caused by ability and effort. Metacognition 8 Lippman, Danielsson Linder (2005), differed slightly with some researchers of metacognition. They claimed that most studies taught metacognitive skills and then measured the effects of training. Instead, they should quantify the use of metacognition. In a study that they carried out at an American university, their aim was to find out how much metacognition is used in a laboratory and how the setup encourages the use of metacognition. Three groups of students were used and their proceedings videotaped and their verbal comments recorded. In one group, students were given a set of instructions to follow. The same was done for the second group and in addition, they were expected to explain their reason. The third group was given a question to answer and expected to explain, in a presentation, the method they had used to get results. In analyzing the results, Lippman et al (2005) saw no difference in the amount of metacognition in the different groups. However, the most important finding was that there was a difference in how metacognition made students change their behavior in tackling the lab assignments. For example, in the third group, the verbal exchanges revealed that the use of metacognition made the students more creative. This was a different approach as was the one used by Mevarech Kramarski (2003). In this study, 100 eighth graders, studying algebra in four classrooms, were divided into two groups. One group was exposed to cooperative learning and also given metacognitive training. The other group was given cooperative learning but without metacognitive training. At issue was mathematical modeling and problem solving skills. After tasks to perform were given, the results showed that the group which had been given metacognitive training did outperformed the other that only had a cooperative setting. There was significant difference with the two groups with regard to planning, processing and reflection. They concluded that the cooperative Metacognition 9 setting is not enough to enhance modeling skills. Metacognitive skills are important in how to approach a problem, how to control and monitor the solution and how to reflect on the final answer. As a result of such studies, Mevarech Kramarski (2003) designed the learning tool called IMPROVE, whose letters stand for : Introducing the new material Metacognitive questioning Practicing Reviewing Obtaining mastery on higher and lower cognitive processes Verification Enrichment and remedial The important thing in IMPROVE is the approach in problem solving. Students are able to approach a scenario with a systematic method which first and foremost addresses the question of what is the issue at hand. They then investigate to find out how different the problem is from others and what the best strategies are to solve it. As can be seen from all the studies mentioned, metacognition is an area of development that has a lot of room for growth. Animals which have been shown to have metacognitive abilities can be researched further in order to discover if this is something widespread within the animal kingdom, and if not, then what actually determines metacognition of a species. With children too, the theory of the mind is interesting and further studies should be carried out to determine if there are other areas of their lives that can benefit from improved research on Metacognition 10 metacognition. For example, are high levels of metacognition genetic? Does diet affect levels of metacognition? What role does disease play in metacognition? It would also be interesting to see new research in the study techniques of students. More than anyone else, their place in society is critical because they take over reins in business, government and the civil society within only a few years after leaving college. Their overall performance in school is therefore a top priority. Of serious concern should be when study techniques should begin to be taught and how they would be standardized. Additionally, quantifying the use of metacognition as advocated for by Lippman (2005), needs to generate more study. If his research is anything to go by, then the approach to metacognition training must also address, not just the amount of metacognition ability gained, but also how it is channeled to productive use. This is an area that can prove very challenging and rewarding because teaching metacognition techniques is one thing, but being able to teach the type of techniques that can produce quantifiable measures cannot be easy. However, it is possible that the same metacognition graduates will discover new methods and strategies to impart more abilities in metacognition. In seeking a higher education position, making ethical decisions will be significant. Assessing ethical conduct is a key element to improving the resolution of ethical conflicts. Asking questions and surveying individuals in the medical field, businesses, colleges, and other areas will provide useful information about the impact and influence of ethical conduct. Empirical research indicates various factors influence and affect ethical behavior. Family and religion play a dominant role in producing positive ethical decisions, especially as people get older. Myths and Realities At least since the 1990 publication of Senge's The Fifth Discipline, the concept of the learning organization (LO) has been promoted as a way to restructure organizations to meet the challenges of the coming century. What are learning organizations-in theory and in practice? Are they a real solution or the latest in a series of reform fads? The myths and realities are explored in this publication. Getting a Grip on the Learning Organization Of course, there is not yet a consensus on the definition of a learning organization. Any type of organization can be a learning organization-businesses, educational institutions, nonprofits, community groups. Some authors agree that LOs start with the assumptions that learning is valuable, continuous, and most effective when shared and that every experience is an opportunity to learn. LOs have the following characteristics (Calvert et al. 1994; Watkins and Marsick 1993): They provide continuous learning opportunities. They use learning to reach their goals. They link individual performance with organizational performance. They foster inquiry and dialogue, making it safe for people to share openly and take risks. They embrace creative tension as a source of energy and renewal. They are continuously aware of and interact with their environment. Senge's "five disciplines" are the keys to achieving this type of organization: personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. According to Senge, the fifth, systems thinking, is the most important and underlies the rest. Curriculum
Taba in Curzon (2004, p185) Armitage, et al (1999) looks at exploring the curriculum and asks why our courses look the way they look, how they may have developed and how we can understand our courses better in order to help improve the quality of our studentââ¬â¢s learning. It also covers definitions of ââ¬Ëcurriculumââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"The curriculum is a formal course of study as at a college, university or training providerâ⬠This is a definition with which I agree, or it is ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ he public form of attempting to put an educational idea into practiceâ⬠which shows just a few diverse set of definitions. The definitions range from showing and making an impact to the teacher and training planning and also with the planning across my college. Key issues in defining ââ¬Ëcurriculumââ¬â¢ include statements of what is to be learned, pointers as to the outcomes of this learning and explanations about the vision behind the curriculum. It has begun to expose and con sider our own ideas about curriculum.Goodson (1994, quoted in Armitage, et al 1999) makes the interesting point that, while curriculum development and implementation have been written about by so many people, the more fundamental issues of curriculum definition, who constructs it, why and for who have been more neglected. This is something which I have often questioned myself. Wilson (2009) discusses the context of ââ¬ËWidening Participationââ¬â¢ within the curriculum and how in this design of curriculum the requirements of groups are and was then considered.In some cases Education may need to be taken into other settings and contexts such as prisons or detention centres, the curriculum would then need to be adapted to suit this particular group of learners. The curriculum of delivering say mechanicals such as curriculum that they offer within other colleges that I am now aware of, would need to be adapted in prison to take consideration and understanding of the tools and equi pment such as sharp pillarââ¬â¢s that may be involved.The work of Wilson (2009) emphasises the curriculum choices in the FE (Further Education) sector are now principally influenced by funding and that funding is now a strong need into how curriculum is given. The funding bodiesââ¬â¢ research that sociality requires employment and social need. Coffined (2008, p44) suggests that ââ¬Å"not everything demanded can be afforded ââ¬Å"and argues the question ââ¬Å"who is making the demandâ⬠.

If you're having trouble, sit down and brainstorm. Think about all the events your student government plans. Which did you attend? Were there issues at these events? What could have been done better? Is it something you could change? This brainstorming should lead you to some ideas of why you want to become president of your class or school. Why do you need a reason to want to be class president? It'll keep you motivated during your campaign, and it'll help you explain to your classmates why they should vote for you. I'll delve into this in-depth later on in this article. First, I'll go over the two major steps you need to follow in order to run a successful campaign. Step 1: Start Early If you want to be president of your class or high school some day, you need to start working towards that goal early. Plan to join student council your freshman year, but donââ¬â¢t expect to be elected president.Freshman student council elections are usually a mess.Freshman elections typically happen within a month of starting school, so no one knows each other. The person elected president is usually the person whose name other students have heard the most.Itââ¬â¢s not usually based on competence or trust. My recommendation for freshman student council elections: Run for one of the ââ¬Å"smallerâ⬠offices such as secretary or treasurer.There is usually less competition for these positions, so youââ¬â¢ll have a better shot of being elected.During freshman year, your aim should just be to get on the council. Once you're on it, youââ¬â¢ll be able to prove your effectiveness as a leader and can start the climb towards president.I was elected Freshman Treasurer, and then Sophomore Vice President, and then Junior Class President. Step 2: Maintain Relationships You need to work from the start to build relationships with your classmates so that they know and trust you. Interact with the students around you.Sit with different groups at lunch.Talk to them about their concerns and what changes theyââ¬â¢d like to see happen at the school. The Common Book of Baby and Child Care Dr. Benjamin Spocks revolutionary book about how to raise children was first published on July 14, 1946. The book, The Common Book of Baby and Child Care, completely changed how children were raised in the latter half of the 20th century andà has become one of the best-selling non-fiction books of all time. Dr. Spock Learns About Children Dr. Benjamin Spock (1903-1998) first began learning about children as he grew up, helping take care of his five younger siblings. Spock earned his medical degree at Columbia Universitys College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1924 and focused on pediatrics. However, Spock thought he could help children even more if he understood psychology, so he spent six years studying at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Spock spent many years working as a pediatrician but had to give up his private practice in 1944 when he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. After the war, Spock decided on a teaching career, eventually working for the Mayo Clinic and teaching at such schools as the University of Minnesota, the University of Pittsburgh, and Case Western Reserve. Dr. Spocks Book With the aid of his wife, Jane, Spock spent several years writing his first and most famous book, The Common Book of Baby and Child Care. The fact that Spock wrote in a congenial manner and included humor made his revolutionary changes to child care easier to accept. Spock advocated that fathers should play an active role in raising their children and that parents will not spoil their baby if they pick him up when he cries. Also revolutionary was that Spock thought that parenting could be enjoyable, that each parent could have a special and loving bond with their children, that some mothers could get the blue feeling (postpartum depression), and that parents should trust their instincts. The first edition of the book, especially the paperback version, was a big seller right from the start. Since that first 25-cent copy in 1946, the book has been repeatedly revised and republished. So far, Dr. Spocks book has been translated into 42 languages and sold more than 50 million copies. Dr. Spock did write several other books, but his The Common Book of Baby and Child Care remains his most popular. Revolutionary What seems like ordinary, normal advice now was completely revolutionary at the time. Before Dr. Spocks book, parents were told to keep their babies on a strict schedule, so strict that if a baby was crying before its prescribed feeding time that parents should let the baby continue crying. Parents were not allowed to give in to the childs whims. Parents were also instructed not to coddle, or show too much love, to their babies for that would spoil them and make them weak.à If parents were uncomfortable with the rules, they were told that doctors know best and thus they should follow these instructions anyway. Dr. Spock said just the opposite. He told them that babies dont need such strict schedules, that it is okay to feed babies if they are hungry outside the prescribed eating times, and that parents shouldà show their babies love. And if anything seemed difficult or uncertain, then parents should follow their instincts. New parents in the post-World War II era readily embraced these changes to parenting and raised the entire baby boom generation with these new tenets. Controversy There are some that blame Dr. Spock for the unruly, anti-government youth of the 1960s, believing that it was Dr. Spocks new, softer approach to parenting that was responsible for that wild generation. Other recommendations in the earlier editions of the book have been debunked, such as putting your babies to sleep on their stomachs. We now know that this causes a greater incidence of SIDS. Anything so revolutionary will have its detractors and anything written seven decades ago will need to be amended, but that does not deflate the importance of Dr. Spocks book. It is not an overstatement to say that Dr. Spocks book completely changed the way parents raised their babies and their children.

Character Analysis of Romeo Essay The play Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in which Romeo is a tragic hero, who is the son of Montague and falls in love with Juliet from his feud family, Capulet, at their first glance of each other. Shakespeare uses several rhetoric devices in Romeoââ¬â¢s lines to suggest that Romeo is a romantic yet rash figure. As Russ McDonald mentions in his essay ââ¬Å"Shakespeareââ¬â¢s tragic characters are visionaries, purists, idealistsâ⬠1, Romeo satisfies to be an idealist, who believes that he is going to have an adorable life with Juliet but gets totally messed up when things turn down. First, ââ¬Å"Heaven is here where Juliet lives and every cat and dog and little mouse, everything unworthy thing live here in heaven and may look on her, but Romeo may notâ⬠¦ They may seize on the whit wonder of dear Julietââ¬â¢s hand and steal immortal blessing from her lipsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ 2 Both personification and metaphor are used in this quote in order to vividly describe the grief in Romeoââ¬â¢s heart. Human behaviours are applied to every dog, cat, mouse and other unworthy things that they can ââ¬Å"seizeâ⬠and ââ¬Å"stealâ⬠. Evidently, to ââ¬Å"seize the white wonderâ⬠and to ââ¬Å"steal immortal blessing from her lipsâ⬠are things that Romeo wants to do rather than he wants those animals to do. It is also suggested that Romeo would rather to be those animals instead of him to stay with Juliet given that he has been sentenced banishment. These things show that Romeo is suffering from anguish that he is going to leave Juliet and regarding himself as one that ranks lower those cats, dog, mice and other unworthy things. Moreover, ââ¬Å"heavenâ⬠, in this context does not refer to the place where people live after they die. Actually, Shakespeare uses metaphor here to refer ââ¬Å"heavenâ⬠to the place where Juliet lives but Romeo is prohibited to live. On the other hand, Romeo implies that he is going to a place like the hell. The contrast between the heaven and the hell is so strong that Romeo is upset because before he believed that he would lead a sweet life with Juliet. At this point, I conclude that Romeo is round character in this play. Round characters are defined to be those ââ¬Å"who are more complex, who change their minds, attitudes, and actions, or who take readers through a process of conflict along with them. â⬠3 Before Romeo is sentenced, he was assuming that he was going to stay with Juliet after he married Juliet and most of the readers think so. But given that Romeo kills Tybalt and he is exiled, things turn to the dark side so that Romeo becomes sorrowful by which the reader is shocked. Second, ââ¬Å"Eyes, look your last. Arms, take your last embrace. And, lips, O, you the doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss a dateless bargain to engrossing death. â⬠4 This piece contains imperative sentences that Romeo does certain things to show his magnificent love to Juliet straight from his heart. It is also an appealing detail, which carefully depicts the actions of Romeoââ¬â¢s eyes, arms and lips and which the reader is able to visualize in their head. As Gail Kern Paster mentions in his essay ââ¬Å" Rather Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s love is a social problem, unresolvable except by their deaths, because they dare to marry secretly in an age when legal, consummated marriage was irreversibleâ⬠5, in that historical context, in order to show that he is still loving Juliet not anyone else, he has no choices but to kill himself. Third, ââ¬Å"Hence ââ¬Ëbanishedââ¬â¢ is ââ¬Ëbanished from the world,ââ¬â¢ And worldââ¬â¢s exile is death. Then ââ¬Ë banishedââ¬â¢ is death mistermed. Calling death ââ¬Ëbanishedââ¬â¢, thou cuttââ¬â¢st my head off with a golden axâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ 6. In this quote, the word ââ¬Å"banishedâ⬠is repeated several times. Such a repetition shows enormous grief that exists in Romeoââ¬â¢s heart and his unwillingness to leave the place where Juliet lives. Moreover, Romeo regards banishment as death and the fantasy, ââ¬Å"cuttââ¬â¢st my head off with a golden axâ⬠. At this point, I think that Romeo is quite rash and pessimistic. As Russ McDonald mentions ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ they are like children, for their idealistic conception of the world is usually marked by a radical simplicity and naiveteâ⬠7, I state that it is Romeoââ¬â¢s simplicity and naivete that he equals banishment to death. In my opinion, it is just a tiny stumble block in his life as every other individual will have and Romeo is so rash that he is demanding death. Fourth, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦her beauty makes this vault a feasting present full of light. â⬠8 The hyperbolic language in this quote suggests that Romeo sees that Juliet presents impressive and glorious beauty, which looks light. Again, it is a very strong piece of language to emphasise the unshakable status of Juliet in Romeoââ¬â¢s mind.

Managing Room Division in Hospitality 1.0 Introduction: Room divisions is the heart of any hotel as it is the most revenue generating department in the hotel (Chon Sparrowe, 1995). Room division comprises of front office, housekeeping, Maintenance and security. This all department work in hand in hand for the smooth functioning of the organization. several components in room division contribute to having a profitable hotel. The main focus of the hotel is a revenue goal in which the majority revenue comes from selling of rooms. Especially the front desk agent, housekeeping are heros in the room division department as they can lead to better customer service and higher revenues for the hotel. 2.0 Room Division Supervisory Function: Room division is a combination of front office, housekeeping, Maintenance and the security. There-fore the room division supervisor should have the experience in all this department and should have the skill required for this job. He should be able to communicate with all these department to carry out the day to day activities. Albona (Jan 2008) stated that training of staff in the workplace is vital. As a supervisor, he need to take a proactive approach to training and developing the employees and not being reactive. Reactive means that we train the employees when there is an emergency or when we are forced to. Thinking it through making a good plan, a good place to start are based on the annual goals and objective for our organization and for our department and starting from that point you have a good plan and vision and you could see well if this is going to happen. Formulating a training plan that is proactive when looking at skill to develop also we want to look at both hard and soft skills. how they communicate with us and others, this are becoming more and more crucial especially as we develop or want to develop more teamwork because team work requires people to be able to work together to grow to solve problems together and the more that they interact more we allow them to make decisions. Marketplace is becoming competitive so we could be competing globally, nationally or locally but having a better develop work force a better trained workforce gives us that competitive advantage (Lenehan, 2000). Proper training should be provided to the staff to work efficiently and smoothly and they know about the work place safety and procedures. It is the duty of the room division supervisor to conduct training programs frequently as training is considered to be an ongoing process. He should develop guidelines and the standard procedures to carry out the plans. Controlling the cost is one of the major responsibility as this department has the largest staff employed. Employees should be crossed train in order to overcome any inadequacies. He should create plans to maximize the average daily rate and the percentage. Handling customer complaints is important because the quality and style of service is a major factor in providing an enjoyable, relaxing and satisfying experience for the guest. He must be up to date with the events taking place in the market, in market segments, and in the competition Maintenance, decoration and furnishing: As most of the rooms are sold 365 nights a year, they need regular attention and inspected by the supervisor. Freshing up and refurbishment is required on a regular basis. This may mean that rooms are decorated, painted and refurnished by a regular team of people or contractors. Maintenance team under the supervision of room division supervisor will make sure all the structural problems are dealt with swiftly and efficiently and that all the equipment and machinery are working well. 3.0 Cost control and the necessary resources for room division In response to Learning Outcome of cost control and the necessary resources for room division, the author has learnt number of cost control method used in the room division department new ideas developed and learned which lead to green practices and sustainability which can indirectly lead to cost control. The following practices are followed in the room division to cut down the cast which can add up to profit for the organization 3.1 Labor cost: Room division is the department where large numbers of staff are required. Labor cost can make huge impact on the overall profit of the organization (Rees, 1974). Managers need to manage the staff based on the forecast report. Managers are looking to improve the effectiveness of the management of the labor, the time management making sure that we had the right amount of people, the right shifts, making sure the minutes per room were being done. Labor management tool helps managers to schedule right amount of people for the required day thus saving labor cost by overstaffing. Cross training of employees is other way of cost control where same employee can be trained to get the desired skill in different section and can be used whenever needed 3.2 REUSE OF LINENS TOWELS Many properties have adopted a more environmentally friendly linen change policy to avoid the wastage practice washing on a daily basis. Although there is no common standard linen change policy in most cases bed linens can be replaced every two or three days and of course when soiled to ensure the program operates smoothly. The head housekeeper must keep control to indicate room list which bed require full linen change. A simple alternative to two day linen change program is the top to bottom method in which the bottom sheet covering the mattress is removed and replaced by the top sheet and then new bedsheet is used as a top sheet to finish making the bed Accommodation unit often change guest room towels every day and it consume large amount of water, energy and the detergents for washing towels and linen that have been used only once. Partly as a result of the growing environment awareness and concern shown by tourist and tour operators many accommodation units have implemented a towel reuse program which is explained to gust via a simple text card. This program invites guest to use their towel for more than one day, instead of having them replaced. By using this there simple techniques a large amount of money can be saved which is required for cleaning of this linens and towels. 3.3 Energy efficient appliances: Lighting in accommodation units can account up to 25 percent of their total electricity consumption. How- ever energy efficient lamps can be used to save energy and reduce cost (Adelaar Rath, 1997). This lamps consume 75 percent less energy and last eight to ten times longer than tungsten light bulbs as they are cost effective lighting options. Motion sensor light can be installed outdoors as it saves lots of energy that often remain unoccupied for a long period of time. It is not just light other electrical equipment can be controlled by timing devices to ensure they only run when necessary. Jacuzzi pumps can be controlled by electronic or windup timers to ensure they switch off after an appropriate time. The housekeeping staff should be trained to turn off the lights and appliances when not required. 4.0 Safety security measures practiced in room divisions including risk assessment external threats: When we talked about hotels problem first in mind come safety second security. Everyone wants to be secure but no want to face security. The management ensure safety in several areas by installing sign, training, cctv cameras and other installation. This is followed by health safety and non-toxic cleaning material. Various safety and security measured were learned by the author to make it a safe and protected place for the guests. Housekeeping and front office are the important and responsible position in any hotel or motel. It takes a lot of hard work to meet the schedules but that what the business is all about providing service to the guests. Hotels are required to ensure guest safety. However, must exercise reasonable care of guest and employee safety. Safety of guests and security of the hotel is the duty of every employee, supervisor and manager of the hotel. Hotel provides training on the safety of employee which provide them adequate training to ensure the safety of guests, fire safety and work environment. Employees are trained in such a way that they can respond to emergencies. The safety and security of employees should be the first priority, a proper orientation is required in housekeeping department as this is the place where employees are in contact with chemicals, electrical machines, mounting ladders and unhealthy positions can damage the health of the employees (Kappa et al, 1997). video recor der can be used to record activities at the reception, the car park and nearby surroundings. Robbery of Cash is not the time to try to protect cash resources. Protecting the staff at such time should be the first priority. At the time of robbery employee should observe the theft and his moves and should follow whatever they say. If the contact alarms are not installed, employee should contact the police or the local authority and report the same to the concern person on duty to take immediate actions. hotels attempt to generate an environment which is welcoming as well as secure against various manifestations of criminality (Gill et al 2002). Hotels are often the key targets of terrorist. Suspicious activities of visitor or the employees should be reported to the supervisor, security department or a designated staff member (Stafford et al 2002). The cleaning staff is trained to report doubtful items, drugs and excess liquidity that are found in the room. Today hotel uses different security techn ology and security system to protect the guests. It is the priority of the hotel and hotel employees to make the guest feel safe as they would feel in their homes. 5.0 Conclusion: Managing room division is an applied unit and the author was required to applied rooms division experience comprising of hours in both housekeeping and front office department. All hours were predominantly held at the Sydney campus with some in Leura campus experiences. The campus created exceptional applied environments at the front office and the housekeeping demo lab. This environment set the seam for what it is like to be in the industry. Room division is an effective part of operation of a hotel and resort. The applied training received from the enthusiastic trainer from both operational area prepared the author for the industry. I learned about the role of room division, work health and safety, guest satisfaction, emerging technologies and worked on the opera property management system. I experienced lecture, workshops and tutorials activities in the applied learning how to check in and check out. We learn about the sequence to cleaning a room and how laundry operates to effici ently make the daily demands. Trinity of Beliefs Essay -- essays research papers
We study different religious faiths in order to understand other people. Many people have strong religious convictions, and it would be impossible to understand them without first understanding their faith. Which is why when studying the early Western World the religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, which are all closely related, are examined. All three of these religions are Western, they are monotheistic, and together they form the Abramic religions. Judaism is the oldest, dating from around 2000 BC and the most ancient religion still practiced in today's society; Christianity originates from shortly after the death of Jesus Christ; Islam is the youngest, emerging in the seventh century AD. It would appear, then, that Christianity and Islam are descended from Judaism, as different interpretations of the same beliefs. A possible hypothesis is that Christianity and Islam are adaptations of the old monotheistic religion in accordance with the political and social climates of t he times in which they emerged. All three religions share the same ancient history. The importance of Adam, Abraham, Moses and David and many others detailed in the Old Testament, is agreed on by all three religions; however, their view of Jesus' place in the scheme of things is the first major disagreement. The Christians believe him to be the Messiah, which the Jews had waited for for so long, while the Jews and Muslims believe him to be a great prophet and find the claim that he is the Son of God to be blasphemous. This difference of opinion was the chief reason for the bloody break up of the relationship between the Jews and the Christians. At their first emergence the Christians were considered a sect of the Jewish faith by both themselves and other Jews. However, the relationship between the different sects and the rest of the Jewish community became increasingly problematic as Jesus' teachings were considered blasphemous by the Romans. Jesus' all embracing theories and disregard for Jewish law made his movement all the more loathsome to the Jews. This is the primary reason for the stormy relationship between the two religions that were once one; the second reason is due to the manner in which the sect broke away and become a religion in it's own right. This breakaway began with the increasing rejection of Jewish law, for example, of the dietary customs, and when an Emperor... ...ar, even fashionable belief around the Roman Empire at this time, and paganism was fast becoming the religion of the ignorant. However, the diversity of the cultures and pre-existing beliefs in this area meant that not everybody could accept Judaism and the laws and customs that came with it as their single religion. This made sects necessary, and there were a great number of these; Christianity and Islam were the most popular and enduring of them. In today's society, Christianity claims the largest percentage of the world's population, while Islam is the second largest faith. Therefore, although historically Judaism shares a very close relationship with Christianity and Islam, its two main sects have now overtaken it as the world's most popular religions. Today, if a non-Jew, a non-Muslim and a non-Christian came together and examined their faiths, they would find no real faults between them. However, ask any Jew, Muslim or Christian and they will tell you a lot of conflicting b eliefs between the faiths. When, in truth, the faiths are basically one faith all connected in roots, prophets, and beliefs and its not the faiths that are in conflict, but the people of those very faiths.

Mitch Albomââ¬â¢s, The Five People You Meet in Heaven Essay -- The Five Pe
In Mitch Albomââ¬â¢s, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, the author centers the story around Eddieââ¬â¢s life, beginning with his death. ââ¬Å"It might seem strange to start a story with an ending. But all endings are also beginnings. We just donââ¬â¢t know it at the timeâ⬠(1, paragraph 1). The most important thing in this story that we must all understand is that although we may not know it, somehow our lives all have a common intersection. ââ¬Å"No story sits by itself. Sometimes stories meet at corners and sometimes they cover one another completely, like stones beneath a river (16, paragraph 8). Eddieââ¬â¢s life ends tragically at Ruby Pier, the amusement park, where he has felt trapped for so many, long years, with what he thinks of as ââ¬Å"a meaningless lifeâ⬠. When Eddie opens his eyes, he thinks that he is in heaven. He sees the sky changing many, beautiful colors as he is floating through the air. Eddie eventually lands in the place that he has come to think of as his own hell, Ruby Pier. He questions why he has been sent back here. He wonders if he had really been so bad of a person on earth that God would send him here to live for eternity. Once Eddie meets the side show ââ¬Å"freakâ⬠, The Blue Man, he begins to understand why he has come here again. The Blue Man explains that Eddie will meet five people in heaven that will explain the meaning of his life. The Blue Man tells Eddie the story of a young boy, and how that young boy darted out into the road in front of a man, causing him to have a heart attack and crash. He realizes that the man was The Blue Man and the boy had been himself. The Blue Man tells Eddie that he must understand ââ¬Å"That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than... ... to all the children that entered Ruby Pier. They all knew that they would be safe because they had someone watching over them, like an angel. Eddie had been the childrenââ¬â¢s angel. Everyone Eddie met in heaven taught him something about his life. They were all connected to him in different ways, whether it was someone close to him once, or a complete stranger. Somehow, all of their lives had crossed Eddieââ¬â¢s and helped make him the person that he had become. When you think about this lesson, you truly understand. One decision causes an effect, maybe on your life or maybe on someone elseââ¬â¢s life. That effect will cause something else. Itââ¬â¢s what I think of as a ripple effect. Seeing this, it is only proper for an individual to be fully capable to handle such diverse and strenuous work. In the end, by carefully assessing the relevant information regarding project management, only then can an individual assert his/her capabilities to operate in such scenario. Looking at the position closely, it involves multi-linked process that is a determinant for an overall completion of a particular project. Free Management library mentions that ââ¬Å"project management is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a specific (and usually) one-time effort, for example, constructing a building or implement a new computer system. â⬠(1997) Due to this, the project manager should efficiently and effectively coordinate all important and vital segments of the project to ensure and assure its clientele of its relative success. Apart from the challenging scenario involved in the realm of project management, project managers also have the benefit of acquiring different skills needed that can be used in further endeavors and future goals. This may prove to be an important determinant for relative career goals as the work trends during this time demands more adaptive and skilled workers. I want to point out the importance of leadership skills because of its capabilities and lasting effects it can contribute not only to the individual but to the overall dynamics of the group as well. The position of project manager not only enhances and creates avenues for project development but at the same time a method in augmenting leadership capabilities of an individual. Another important reason why I want to become a project manager is the relative challenges it promotes as far as success is concerned. In the creation and formulation of new ideas, risks are involved. These risks can either create hindrances or failure of the project to be implemented further. In the end, a skillful project manager must balance clienteleââ¬â¢s plans and at the same time opinions and perceptions of people under him. Only by doing this can the project manager be successful. Also, I am fascinated in the way project manager handles all the decision-making processes. This is one such reason why I am interested in the position of project manager ââ¬â due to its capabilities to enforce its own decision making. Though such may prove to be good for the part of the project manager, there are numerous setbacks and risks involved. Making the wrong decisions can mean problems for the overall success of the project. In addition, the blame shall only be given to the project manager for every failure and setbacks due to poor decision making. Seeing this, there are indeed positive outcomes and challenges posed by the position of development manager. However, with the relative positive outcomes, the position remains to be challenging and worthy of getting. That is why, given these reasons, I still want to become a project manager in the near future.

This becomes more evident when Charles tells Mr. Tatcher and Mr. Burnsteen that he might have been a really great man if he weren't rich. When one is forced to do something outside his/her interest or values, he/she is subject to feelings of tension and stress. To handle this discomfort, one uses various coping methods. One of the main coping methods Charles was using was to act out and refuse to cope with the situation. Charles then goes on to get expelled from many prestigious colleges. His expulsion surely was not an indication that he was an inefficient person. The fact was that Charles Kane had turned into a rebel. When the parents he trusted so much give him away, it leaves Charles with a bitter feeling of betrayal. It causes him anger and he seeks revenge. He seeks revenge not just by getting expelled from colleges, but also when he has to make a choice to start his career, he refuses to take over wealthy gold mines, oil wells, shipping companies and real estate agencies. Instead he chooses to take over 'The New York Daily Inquirer', a newspaper that is on the verge of being closed. His thirst for revenge is all the more evident when he declares that he would like to win all that Mr. Tatcher hates. One of the stages in Erikson's Psychosocial Stages of Development is 'Identity v/s Role Confusion'. At this point of time, we get to see that Charles as a young adult had not been able to develop a n identity and instead was confused about the role he was playing. Time passes by and Charles' quest for love begins in a big way. Charles marries Emily Monroe Norton, niece of the US President. Charles marries for love. He also enters politics to win the love of the voters. But both, his marriage and career in politics come to an end with his extra marital affair with Susan Alexander getting revealed. What draws Charles to Susan is her innocence and simplicity. She reminds him his simple childhood. Charles later on marries Susan and bribes her in all the ways possible to win her love. But Charles fails to give Susan what she wants and even his second marriage comes to an end with Susan leaving him in his estate. At this point, another stage in Erikson's Psychosocial Stages of Development that comes to mind is 'Ego Integrity v/s Despair'. Older adults need to look back on life and feel a sense of fulfillment. Success at this stage leads to feelings of wisdom, while failure results in regret, bitterness, and despair. Charles is all by himself in the last few years of his life and has none of his loved ones by the side of his death bed. The words Charles utters just before his last breath catches the attention of the reporters, but none of them are able to understand its significance. He just says, "Rosebud". Initially, when Tatcher was at Charles' Parents' house to pick him up, Charles shoves a sled at Tatcher and pushes him away. Until then, Charles was enjoying himself in the snow with this same sled. The two words painted on the sled was 'Rosebud'. Charles leaves behind that sled in his parents' house. Tatcher gifts him a new sled for the next Christmas, but it never replaces the 'rosebud' sled in Charles' heart. In the last few
